Everything You Need to Know About the Repairability Index in 2026

Legal obligations, timeline, affected categories, and what to upload on Ripskore for French Repairability Index compliance.

The Repairability Index is a French regulatory requirement for manufacturers and importers of electrical and electronic appliances. Its goal: inform consumers about how easy a product is to repair before they buy it.

What is the Repairability Index?

It is a score out of 10, calculated from 5 criteria:

  1. Technical documentation (availability of manuals and diagrams)
  2. Ease of disassembly (tools required, steps)
  3. Spare parts availability (lead times and duration)
  4. Spare parts price (ratio of part price to product price)
  5. Category-specific criteria (product information, etc.)

Affected categories

In 2026, the index applies to several small appliance categories:

  • Vacuum cleaners
  • Dishwashers
  • Electric lawn mowers
  • High-pressure cleaners
  • And other categories added progressively

The 4 files Ripskore requires per submission folder

French law does not name these four uploads explicitly; they are what the platform needs to build your compliance package. For each product submission folder on Ripskore, upload:

  1. Exploded view — detailed technical diagram of the appliance
  2. Bill of materials — parts list (BOM)
  3. Spare parts price list — ex-VAT price grid
  4. Product documentation — user manual and/or technical documentation

What are the penalties for non-compliance?

DGCCRF may audit your compliance at any time. If the index is missing or inaccurate, fines can reach €3,000 for individuals and €15,000 for legal entities.

How to become compliant quickly

Assembling the submission folder (4 documents, score calculation, label generation) can take 2 to 3 weeks internally. Specialized services like Ripskore deliver in 72 hours for a flat fee of €999 excl. VAT.
